Workshop Diary: Building With AI, Hands on the Wheel

Workshop Diary, a short note on how tools really come to be.

Same site, kallehakala.fi, the other half. I built it with AI. Not bragging, not a confession: it’s a tool. I built the site; the AI came along like a power tool, faster than a handsaw, but the person still guides the saw.

The machine works fast, the human decides right

AI is a ferocious drafter, theme code, search markup, translation drafts and images in seconds. But it doesn’t decide what the site says, what’s true, or what gets published. Those decisions are mine, and that’s where the value is.

Rule number one: live is the truth

The live site is the truth, and AI must never overwrite what I’ve written myself. The machine proposes, I approve. I read everything before it’s published. Without this rule, automation sooner or later starts undoing your own work.

AI speeds up the craft. It doesn’t replace judgment, and judgment is what you’re ultimately paid for.

And AI makes mistakes, confidently. Once it ”fixed” a bug that didn’t exist, because it thought it was on the wrong date. So nothing goes out unread. That’s not distrust; it’s knowing what kind of tool it is, a hammer is good for a nail and bad for a screw.

This is how modern craft is done now, and being honest about it is a strength. AI doesn’t make skill unnecessary. It moves the value to judgment and to taking responsibility for what’s published. If someone asks whether AI made these pages: no, I did. I just got a hand with the fast work.
